• A FRIEND. A BROTHER. A FATAL ACCIDENT.

Imran’s voice woke me up this morning. My family members were all up already. Yup, that includes my parents, sisters and brother. They are all here, enjoying holidays.

As part of my morning routine, I checked my phone before taking a shower. There were two SMS-es. One from Eddie, and the other was from an unknown number. Surely, someone from the 9600 brotherhood, as he sent the same exact message as Eddie did. Pondar aka Azil Afiq, my fellow 9600, was involved in a fatal road accident.

This is, by far, a very shocking news, if not the most (the most shocking news in my entire life was to find my also a fellow 9600 in the front page of Sunday’s news, accused of a first degree murder of a doctor). He was fun. He was loud. He was crazy. He was a 9600, he was my Sulaiman’s mate. And he was still very young. At 26, death is something that I believe, very inappropriate. But God has planned everything. God has decided our destiny.

We hadn’t seen each other for a very long time. I’m from Alor Setar and he was from Labuan. I’m working in Terengganu, and very few of 9600s work here too. We parted ways when we left school. We met few times after that, but none then. Still, he was a friend. A good friend. In school, we called ourselves brothers.

Sad and shocked, were the only feelings I had this morning, despite being happy with my family around here. Nothing can be done. The other 9600s will be having ‘tahlil’ and ‘solat jenazah’ at MCOBA Penthouse tonight. As much as I wanted to be there, I have to say that I just can’t. I’m sorry.

Pondar, may God bless you, and may He places you among those good people. You deserved nothing other than good deeds.

PS: Nobody can question of at what age a human being should die appropriately. That’s God’s job to decide. But surely, no one should die on the road.

    PSS: Al-Fatihah.
