I had planned for this since last month. Eager to see what they have in this exhibition. An enthusiast of Leonardo, I couldn’t say no to this.
And so we went to KL last Friday. Biha had a meeting at Tower 2 KLCC, so we took this opportunity. Free hotel for sure. We planned to go to the exhibition on Friday evening, but had to cancel it as Imran was way too tired. So we decided to the next Saturday morning.
As we reached Pusat Sains Negara, there were thousands of children from many schools. Rombongan sekolah kot. I bought the ticket ( buy 1 ticket and presented Astro bill, and got another for free ). We waited for Biha’s friend to arrive, Umai. She too, is a big fan of Leonardo I guess.
As we entered the exhibition hall, I got more and more excited. But it didn’t last long. The excitement was completely gone. I was expecting something better. Replicas of Leonardo’s codices, wooden models built according to the Master’s blueprints, posters of Mona Lisa, The Baptism Of Christ, Annunciation, St. Jerome, Virgin Of The Rocks, The Last Supper (at a hugely decreased scale) and those anatomical studies. Aaahhhh! I can find all those easily in Google. There were no Vitruvian Man and The Adoration Of The Magi.
Video presentations didn’t help getting my excitement back. Those videos have been played over and over again in Discovery Channel and History Channel.
So why this exhibition is so special? Nothing. Except that they made up a special hall for Mona Lisa original color study as it was 500 years ago by a super camera with 240 million pixels resolution. The picture taken by the camera was there, and you can see the Mona Lisa possibly as accurate as over 500 years ago. The color from of Mona Lisa now has ben deterred by the aging varnish and painting material on the poplar. The experts removed as much as possible of the Infra Red symptoms and simulate it to look as close as the painting was made the first day. Whether it’s accurate or not, no one knows.
Other than that, the exhibition didn’t worth the price of the ticket.
